New insights by looking at your processes from another angle

The role of process management applications is to create an overview of your primary or supporting processes so that people can view them, study them at the desired level of detail, and see where and how to improve them in line with your organisation's goals. In summarising all of your processes, you can create an overview which can be used to support objectives such as risk management, governance, compliance, and other aspects of operational control. 

Different views can provide different insights - the more the better!

Oftentimes, process management platforms have the option to create a "swimlane" view in addition to standard base views. In the swimlane view you can see which steps in the process are supported by which resources (such as role or technology used). This allows operational teams to see the process from their perspective and to check whether, based on their experience, additional exceptions or details should be added. Also, when the process maps are used as a handbook or reference instruction, the swimlane view helps to immediately focus on the steps that each role is expected to perform. This helps to easily focus in on the information that is most relevant to them. Furthermore, if the customer / citizen can be added as a role, this allows you to highlight and focus on the customer journey by looking at the process in swimlanes with customer journey on top of the page. 

Making large amounts of information manageable
